This panel will discuss the issues with male dance students in terms of gender stereotypes, expectations, and behaviors. Questions for discussion include: How are male dance students welcomed into the dance studio? What is the benefit of having a dance class for only boys? How does a teacher's gender come into play when teaching boys dance? What stereotypes emerge when learning dance, is there always a boy’s and girl’s part? What is considered masculine or feminine in dance and what cultural expectations must we follow? Each panel member will give a brief account of their experiences and questions will be explored with the participants allowing for diverse perspectives.
