Grounded in the fundamentals of traditional modern technique, particularly the work of Jose Limon, this class will focus on the concepts of alignment, core strength and efficiency of movement. Particular attention will be paid to musicality, phrasing and the use of dynamics to develop a personal sense of expression and a freedom and ease while moving through space. Through almost forty years of developing my own personal class structure, I have arrived at a progression that seems to resonate equally well with intermediate level students as well as the dancers from the Ailey company on the occasions when I teach company class. Although this will be a technique class, I will also break down the progression and discuss my thoughts behind each exercise and its contribution to the overall arc of the class.
